We started out building on Quickbase. Now we help businesses move off it.

Alakazam Labs began as a no-code agency, building on Quickbase and platforms like it. They have helped a lot of businesses, and we know them inside out. But with AI, your business can now have its own software, built around how you work, with an agent team that keeps improving it. We have moved companies off Quickbase multiple times, using agent teams we built for exactly this, and we are here to help you do it too.

Most Quickbase alternatives are another no-code platform you rebuild in yourself. We rebuild your app as software you own.

  • About 3.5 weeksfrom Quickbase to your own software

Before
Quickbase’s low-code environment was initially a draw for us, but after years of using it, its framework began to shape how we approached problems. Working with Alakazam Labs helped us step back, rethink our processes, and build around what our business actually needed.

After
Working with Alakazam Labs through our company’s unique challenges gave us more control over our systems. K2 helped us move away from Quickbase while preserving mission-critical data and keeping employees able to do their jobs throughout the transition.

Why teams look for a Quickbase alternative

Quickbase is good software. The terms are the problem.

Most teams we talk to like what they built. What pushes them to look is how the bill grows and how hard it is to leave. These are Quickbase's own published terms and limits:

$

The bill grows with you

Plans start at $35 (Team) or $55 (Business) per user per month, billed annually, plus a platform minimum. Usage-based plans are priced on "reads", which count views of forms, reports and dashboards.

Your logic lives on their platform

Quickbase's own table export gives you the values, not the formulas, and leaves out file attachments. We've built a way to pull out everything: every formula, Pipeline, automation, Code Page and document, so nothing is lost in the move. The app's text export (QBL) is an Enterprise feature, and Quickbase says it "is not the source code of a solution". Formulas and Pipelines only run on Quickbase, so once we have them out, we rebuild them to run in your new software.

Limits complex apps run into

A Pipeline can have up to 26 steps and run for up to 30 minutes. Older Automations are being retired in favour of Pipelines, so many apps need that work done anyway.

Same questions, two ways

In Quickbase, you build the report. In your own software, you ask.

In Quickbaseyou build it
"Which jobs are behind schedule?"
  • 1New report on Jobs: due date before today, status not Complete
  • 2Add a formula field for days late, then save the report. Quick, if you know how.
"Why are they behind, and what do we do?"
  • 3Open each job and read its notes, linked POs and crew schedule
  • 4Decide the fix for each one and tell the right people
Fast for someone who knows how to build. The "why" is still a person reading records.
In your software, built on K2you ask
You
Russell, which jobs are behind schedule?
Russell Chief of Staff
Three: Maple St. (4 days), Riverside (2 days), Oak Plaza (1 day).
You
Why, and what should we do?
Russell Chief of Staff
Maple St. is waiting on roof underlayment, so I asked Sarah in the warehouse to draft the PO. Riverside is waiting on its inspection. Oak Plaza is a crew short Thursday; Maya can move Tom over once his lift training is done Tuesday.
Ask in plain words. Russell reads across jobs, POs and crews, checks with the other agents, and you decide.

Illustration with sample data. Both sides assume the jobs, POs and crew schedules are already in the app. Quickbase also sells AI features in its Intelligence Pack add-on; the difference here is an agent team that built your app and stays with it.

You keep making changes. You just ask instead of build. The best thing about Quickbase is that the people who run the business can change the app. That stays: you, or anyone you allow, ask your agent team from inside the app. You set the rules: changes go straight in, wait for your OK, or get tried on a test copy first. And because it's your code, any developer you choose can work on it too.

How the migration works

From Quickbase to your own software in about 3.5 weeks.

About 1.5 weeks to rebuild your app and move your data, then two weeks of fine-tuning with your team. A single app usually moves faster than a set of connected apps; we give you a timeline after we map yours.

⚙

Agent teams built for Quickbase

We built our own agent teams that do one job: read Quickbase apps, map them and rebuild them. That is how a migration takes weeks, not months.

We have done this before

We have moved companies off Quickbase multiple times, with the same playbook each time, and every migration makes the next one smoother.

Then your own team takes over

Your app comes with its own agent team, set up during the build, so it knows every table and rule on day one.

  1. Day 1 · free

    App review

A call about what you run on Quickbase, what it costs, and what you wish it did. If staying on Quickbase is the better call, we will tell you.

  2. Week 1

    Map and rebuild

With read access to your app, our migration agents document every table, relationship, formula field, report, form, role and Pipeline, and you get a quote. Then our agents and our people rebuild it as your own software, and set up your own agent team inside it: database, screens for office and phone, roles, workflows and integrations.

  3. By week 1.5

    Move and check your data

We copy your records across and check them against Quickbase, so your team can start using the new app on real data.

  4. Weeks 1.5 to 3.5

    Fine-tune with your team

Your staff use it and tell us what to change. Your agent team and our people tweak screens, reports and workflows until it fits how you work.

  5. Cutover

    Switch over

Your team moves fully to the new app on a date you pick. Plan it ahead of your Quickbase renewal.

  6. After launch

    Your agent team stays on

The agent team that built your software stays with it. You or your staff ask for a change, and watch it happen.

Think outside the Quickbase box

An agent team built around your business.

Quickbase gives you a powerful place to build apps yourself. Your new software comes with a team: agents with real roles, who know your data, talk to each other and handle the routine work. You add, change or remove agents whenever you want, and you decide what each one may do on its own.

Why it runs on K2

It knows your business

Your agents run on the same server as your app and its data, so they already know every table and rule. They also run jobs on a schedule, like a nightly overdue-invoice check.

Any AI company, your plan

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or a model on your own hardware. Switch later without rebuilding, and pay the AI company directly with no markup.

Not tied to us

K2 is free to download and run yourself. If you ever part ways with us, your software and its agents keep running.

For IT

Where it runs, and who controls it.

  • You choose where it runs. On a server we run for you, or on your own Linux server, in the cloud or on site. It's your code and your database, so you can move it later.
  • You decide how changes happen. You choose who can ask the agent team for changes, and how changes go live: straight in, after an approval, or on a test copy first. It is built the way you want.
  • Your AI, your account. Your agent team runs on an AI plan your company holds, for example a Claude plan, so the AI company bills you directly and you can cancel or switch it.
Honest fit

When you should not leave Quickbase.

  • Your bill is small and steady, and the app does what you need.
  • Your team wants to keep building it themselves in a no-code editor every day.
  • You are mid-way through a large Quickbase project that is about to pay off.

Find out what leaving Quickbase would take.

The free app review is a call with the people who would do the work. You come away with:

  • an honest answer on whether moving is worth it for you, including "stay" if that's right;
  • what your Quickbase app would become, and how long it would take;
  • a quote, once we have mapped the app.

Questions

Questions Quickbase teams ask us.

What is the best Quickbase alternative?

It depends on what you want to change. If you want another no-code tool you build in yourselves, teams usually compare Microsoft Power Apps, Airtable, Smartsheet, Zoho Creator and Knack, and you rebuild your apps in that tool. If you want to stop renting a platform altogether, the alternative is custom software you own. Alakazam Labs does that for you, on K2, in about 3.5 weeks, with an agent team that keeps making changes after launch so you keep the speed you had in Quickbase.

How much does Quickbase cost?

As of October 2026, Quickbase lists the Team plan from $35 per user per month and the Business plan from $55 per user per month, both billed annually, plus a platform minimum. Enterprise is quoted. Quickbase also offers usage-based plans priced on "reads", which count views of forms, reports and dashboards. Source: quickbase.com/plans-and-pricing.

How much does an Alakazam Labs migration cost?

The app review is free. After we map your app, you get a quote for the one-time build and data migration. After that the software is yours: there is no subscription to us and no per-user fees, so adding staff doesn't change the price. You pay for hosting (our server or yours) and for the AI plan your agent team runs on (for example a Claude plan), billed by the AI company with no markup from us. Help from our team after launch is there whenever you want it.

Can we build it ourselves instead?

Yes. You know your business, and your agent team does the building. From $1,500, we install K2 and get your agent team built and running. You tell them what you need, and they build it with you, your way, at your pace. Bring us in any time you want a hand.

Is there an open-source Quickbase alternative?

Yes. Self-hosted no-code databases such as NocoDB and Baserow are open source, but you still rebuild your app in them yourself and maintain it. Alakazam Labs gives you your app as your own custom software instead, built for you. K2, the agent platform it runs on, is free to download and self-host; it is source-available under the Fair Source license, which is not the same as open source.

How do I migrate off Quickbase?

Quickbase's own table export gives you the values, not the formulas, and leaves out file attachments. We pull out everything: every formula, Pipeline, automation, Code Page and document, so nothing is lost. Formulas and Pipelines only run on Quickbase, so once we have them out, we rebuild them to run in your new software (Quickbase export docs). A migration has four parts: map every table, relationship, formula, report, role and Pipeline; rebuild them; copy the records across and check them; then switch your team over before your renewal. We do all four for you.

What happens to our formula fields, Pipelines and Code Pages?

Your agent team documents each one before anything is rebuilt. Formula fields become calculations in your software, Pipelines and Automations become workflows and scheduled jobs, and Code Pages become regular pages. Anything that no longer makes sense, we ask you about rather than copy blindly.

How long does a Quickbase migration take?

About 3.5 weeks: roughly 1.5 weeks to rebuild the app and move your data, then two weeks of fine-tuning with your team. A single app usually moves faster than several connected apps. We give you a timeline after mapping your app, and plan the switch ahead of your Quickbase renewal.

Who owns the software after the migration?

You do: the code and the data. It runs on a server we manage for you or on your own server, and you can move it.

What is K2, and why does it matter for our business?

K2 is the platform your new software runs on. It runs a team of AI agents on a server you control, each with its own job, inbox and schedule, using the AI plan you choose. For your business that means the agent team that built your app stays on to make changes, routine work can run on a schedule, and you can add agents for other jobs later. K2 is free to download and self-host, and Alakazam Labs, the team that runs these migrations, builds it (k2.dev).

We like making our own changes in Quickbase. Do we lose that?

No. That is the point of the agent team. You or your staff ask for a change inside the app in plain words, and the agent team that built the app makes it, asking when something is unclear. You decide how changes go live, and our experts are there whenever you want help.

What if the agent team gets a change wrong?

You set the rules. It's your software, so changes can go straight in, wait for your OK, or be tried on a test copy first, and we build it the way you want. Because it's your code, any developer you choose can also review or adjust it.

What about support, backups and the switch-over?

Every business is set up a little differently, so we go through support, backups and your switch-over plan in the free app review, around how your team works. Book it here.

Quickbase vs Power Apps: which should we move to?

Power Apps is often chosen when a company already pays for Microsoft 365, since some Microsoft 365 licenses include limited Power Apps use with standard connectors (premium connectors need a separate license; Microsoft licensing overview). Either way, your Quickbase apps, formulas and Pipelines have to be rebuilt in the new tool by your builders. If you would rather not rebuild on another rented platform, Alakazam Labs moves you to custom software you own and does the rebuild for you.

What if Alakazam Labs went away?

You own the code and the data, so the software keeps running. K2, the platform it runs on, is free to download and self-host, so you or another developer can run and change it.

Is it secure and compliant?

Your data lives in your own database, on a server we run for you or on your own. Logins and roles are built into your app around how your team works, and we go through your security requirements with you in the free app review.

Do we need to know anything about AI or K2?

No. Your team uses the app like any business app, in a browser or on a phone. Asking your agent team for a change is like messaging a colleague.
